Adult Basic Education/Literacy (ABE)

Adult Basic Education

Non-Credit
Adult Basic Education is instruction in basic reading, writing, spelling and math at the student's own skill level. Students may enroll in the class at any time.

Adult Literacy

Non-Credit
This program is for anyone who needs to learn or improve reading skills. Students work one-on-one with volunteer tutors. The class runs in partnership with the Ventura County Library's Adult Reading Program. If you know someone who wants to learn to read, or if you would like to volunteer to be a tutor, call 388-5222.

FEE: $200 (Includes required general and professional liability insurance and assignment of a coordinator of pharmacy to oversee students' hours of participation, evaluate students' progress, and assist students in completion of program objectives.

Screen Printing

Learn to design patterns, prepare stencils, mix inks, and print on clothing, tapestries and fabrics. Also, learn how to use and give maintenance to equipment.

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles

If you are interested in learning how to build and fly a drone, this first year course will introduce Small UAV design and operations. Students will receive hardware and software instruction, and will conduct a series of labs to build and test a small UAV in flight.

General Education Development (GED)

GED Preparation Workshop

Non-Credit

There are study materials for all 4 parts of the General Educational Development (GED®) tests. Each student studies in a lab setting with teacher support to gain the skills he/she needs to pass the test. It is an open-entry program. Register at the office at any time and make an appointment for orientation.

Spanish GED Preparation Workshop

Non-Credit
Preparation is offered in two different locations at morning or evening time. This semester-long class is based on a comprehensive review of mathematics, writing/reading, social studies, and science subjects. Additionally, there is a Saturday computer lab session twice a month at Second St. Campus. At this computer lab, each student –on his/her own– will review any subject contained in the GED®. However, there will be a teacher in the classroom to assist the students.
The class is entirely instructed in Spanish and students may need more than one semester to be prepared to take the tests.

Lifelong Learning

Strength Training/Body Dynamics

Improve your strength, balance, range-of-motion, and coordination. Work with a certified instructor in a safe program adapted to the needs of each individual student.
Improve muscle tone, endurance and balance (10 hours)

Welding (Beginning & Advanced)

This class will introduce the students to the welding and manufacturing field. Students will learn oxyacetylene gas welding, plasma cutting, electric arc TIG, MIG, Flux Core welding. Students will also learn fabrication, layout and completion of metal projects. Certifications in Arc, Tig, and 1 MIG are available to students who successfully complete the welding program for $85 per certification.

Parent Education

Parents Prepared/Parent Project

Parents learn basic parenting skills such as how to reconnect and establish a relationship with their son/daughter as well as discuss teen social issues and behavior. Also covered is important academic information as well as how to utilize school district resources to help parents support their teenagers through their high school journey. These programs are designed for parents of teenagers that are difficult, defiant, or for parents that might simply want to be better prepared on how to handle difficult situations.
