CNA TRAINING PROGRAM
This course, approved by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) and meets Title 22 regulations, will train you to provide care in nursing homes, long-term facilities and hospitals.  Under the supervision of a (CDPH) approved instructor students will learn the basic nursing skills and procedures for providing quality patient care at the bedside of acutely or chronically in-home health concepts are covered. Emphasis is given to safety principles and to methods for providing physical and emotional care and social support. 

Graduates of the program meet the state requirements to be eligible to take the California state certification examination. After completing the Nursing Assistant program and successfully passing the state certification test, the student is issued a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) certification by the state of California. Students are responsible for the testing fee because it is not mandatory to take the exam. The exam consists of written and skills tests. The current fee is $120.  

Prerequisites:

  • CNA entrance exam required. (Please contact our CTE program specialist for the entrance exam schedule)

  • All students must have a valid government-issued ID and Social Security card for Livescan and State Competency Exam. The names on both cards must match.

  • All students must have current TB clearance, current immunizations, flu vaccine, and physical exam before clinical training. Students must be able to lift 50 pounds with good body mechanics. 

  • Students must have either an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers card or a Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers CPR card valid for the duration of the course. 

  • All students will be Livescan fingerprinted on the first day of class.

Oxnard Adult School is not permitted to send students who have been convicted of a crime (other than a minor traffic violation) to CNA clinical sites unless they first obtain clearance under California Law.  Drug screening during the program may be required.
